Remembrance Sunday diversions

The annual Remembrance Day parades take place on Sunday 11 November with many diversions in place.

Brighton City Centre

Between 9.30am and 12noon, Old Steine stop H will be closed whilst the Salute stand is put into place. All buses for this duration should operate via the south-west corner of Old Steine and stop at stop U. From 10.15am, Old Steine will be closed until 12noon and the following diversions will be operated:

Southbound buses

from St Peter’s Church on reaching Grand Parade, will then turn right into Church Street, right into Spring Gardens, left onto North Road and left onto Queens Road and regain normal route from the Clock Tower.

Westbound buses

Travelling from Eastern Road will join this diversion from Rock Gardens right on to Marine Parade and then along the seafront, right up West Street and regain normal route from the Clock Tower and similarly buses heading west along the A259 will join it at the Aquarium roundabout.

Eastbound buses

From Churchill Square/Brighton Station will operate via Queens Road and North Road back to the A23 bus lanes, observing the stop towards the bottom of North Road. Buses that normally continue to St James’s Street will from the bottom of North Road go across the A23 to Grand Parade, then turn left up Edward Street and regain normal route from the top of Rock Gardens (services for Kemp Town should go down Rock Gardens and turn left into Upper St James’s Street). Buses that normally serve the Sea Life Centre stop eastbound will go up Edward Street and down Rock Gardens, and then turn right into Marine Parade down to the Aquarium roundabout, then turn round at the roundabout to serve the Sea Life Centre stop and then continue as normal.

All services going eastbound up Edward Street are asked to serve the stop outside American Express.

The parade will leave Waitrose car park to go to Chapel Green at 2pm, slight delays may therefore be encountered on Croft Road as a result

Between 8am and 1pm, Terminus Road, Cornfield Road and Devonshire Place will be closed. During this time, buses will need to divert to and from Eastbourne Pier.

Towards the Pier: From outside the station in Terminus Road, buses should turn left into Ashford Road (dropping off passengers if required), then proceed along and turn right into Cavendish Place through to Seaside Road, then turn left and continue normal route to the Pier.

Towards Brighton: From the Pier towards Brighton: services should proceed straight along the seafront, then right into Lascelles Terrace, across into Chiswick Place, then left into Blackwater Road and proceed along to the junction with Spencer Road, then turn right into Spencer Road, and then turn left into South Street and follow the road round to the right as it bears into Gildredge Road and then continue as normal westbound.

The town centre will be closed to traffic from 10.45am - 11.30am and 2.15pm – 4pm. During this period, all services 28 and 29 will operate via the bypass and Cuilfail Tunnel in both directions, picking up and setting down at the lay-by at the Tesco roundabout.

The parade will go along the western end of South Way at some point between 10.35am and 10.55am, slight delays can be expected to westbound services.

The parade will go along Sutton Avenue to the Meridian Centre between 10.30am and 11am. Minor delays can be expected.

Traffic will be held on the main Lewes Road for the procession for approximately 5 minutes at about 10.30am and then again after the church service at 12.30pm.

The High Street will be closed from 11.30am to 1pm, so from the bottom of Cowley Drive to the White Horse terminus, buses should operate via Ovingdean in both directions during this time.

The A259 will be closed from 10.40am to 11.20am between Avondale Road and Broad Street. During this time, buses will divert via Dane Road, Pelham Road, Steyne Road and Sutton Avenue in both directions. Service 12A will operate through Chyngton Estate via Alfriston Road, again in both directions.

The Green and Southwick Square will be closed between 10.30am and 11.45am, buses on service 46 will terminate in Kingston Lane at the end of Rectory Road, then turn left up Kingston Lane and run light to the Holmbush roundabout to turn round, then back down Kingston Lane to restart normal route on turning right into Rectory Road.

Tunbridge Wells

No official notification has been received, but if Mount Pleasant Road outside the War Memorial closes, buses will operate via Church Lane and London Road to/from Meadow Road.

The parade will be in the High Street at some point between 2pm and 3pm and again between 4pm and 4.45pm, slight delays may therefore be experienced.

There may be other remembrance parades in other areas across our operating network that we have not been informed about, so this list may not be totally exhaustive.
